Switchgear

Switchgear is a vital part of any manufacturing plant process. Without properly functioning circuit breakers, the plant would be unable to operate with its extensive electrical needs. National can inspect these breakers, testing them electronically in our own facility, to be certain they will function to our customer's specifications.

In addition to inspection and testing, National can clean, lubricate, and overhaul circuit breakers if necessary, providing our customers with the option of a complete retrofit. In older breakers, corrosive action, worn parts or failing contacts can cause the breaker to fail to operate when required. An inspection and test of your circuit breakers by National can be an investment to keep your plant in operation.

Retrofitting removes the electrically-triggered, mechanical parts of the breaker and replaces it with a fully electronic relay, which allows for a more precise dialing of the critical current point at which the breaker will open. Breakers which fail to open at the correct current level can cause serious damage to your computer-controlled equipment.

National is the nationwide distributor for Carriere Technical Industries' retrofit kits and secondary injection testers.

Contacts

National can perform a number of different operations with electrical contacts, including refurbishment, re-tip contacts with: silver, silver/tungsten, copper/tungsten, silver/cadmium, silver molly, etc. This is useful in that it costs significantly less than buying new contacts. National can, of course, manufacture new contacts, both those still in production and those which have been deemed obsolete by the OEM. National also manufactures and sells contact kits for circuit breakers and tap changers. We can improve existing contacts by upgrading them for longer, harder use (cycle timing).
